I.Origin and Development of Worman Pumps

Charles Harold Warman, the inventor of the Warman pump, was born in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia, where both his father and grandfather worked in mines. After graduating from the Western Australian School of Mines, Warman apprenticed with the state government’s railway department and later worked as a design and drafting engineer for a major Australian gold mining company, where he first encountered slurry pumps.

In 1938, Warman obtained a patent for a replaceable rubber-lined pump, a revolutionary and innovative invention that marked the beginning of the double-casing slurry pump. This double-casing design completely transformed the slurry pump industry in the 1930s.

While supplying mining equipment, including pumps, through consulting services, Mr. Warman gradually shifted his focus to pumps and mining equipment, moving his base to Artarmon, Sydney in 1958. As the business grew, Warman pumps became a globally recognized brand in the mining industry.

Later, Warman pumps were acquired by The Weir Group PLC. Founded in 1871, the Weir Group is a world-leading company designing and manufacturing high-quality pumps, hydrocyclones, valves, and other engineering equipment. It was listed on the London Stock Exchange in 1947 and ranks among the top 100 companies on the FTSE. Currently, the Weir Group operates in over 70 countries worldwide, employing more than 11,000 people, and focuses on the mining, oil, gas, and power markets.

In China, the introduction of Warman pumps began in 1980, when Shijiazhuang Pump Factory imported slurry pumps, gravel pumps, foam pumps, and submersible pumps from Warman Corporation of Australia. Shijiazhuang Pump Industry was a licensed manufacturer of Warman centrifugal slurry pumps and components, making a significant contribution to the development of pump technology in China. The agreement later expired, leading to intellectual property litigation.

II.Structural Features of the Worman Pump

The most significant structural feature of the Worman pump is its double-casing design, where both the pump body and pump cover have replaceable wear-resistant metal liners (including the impeller, sleeve, and protective plates). This design allows the pump to withstand high-wear conditions by replacing only the liner components, rather than the entire pump body, significantly reducing maintenance costs and downtime.

III.Main Materials of Worman Pumps

The main materials used for the flow-through components of the Worman pump are A05, A49, A07, R55, and A61.
