The electric mini excavator “PCO1E-2” jointly developed by Komatsu, Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Komatsu”) and Honda Motor Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as: Honda) was launched in the Japanese domestic market in August this year.
This machine is an improved machine of the electric mini excavator “PCO1E-1 (hereinafter referred to as the original model)” introduced to the Japanese domestic market as a rental machine in March 2022. Like the PCO5E-1 released in October last year, it is equipped with a detachable portable battery “Honda Mobile Power Pack: (mobile power pack*1)” and an electric power unit “eGX”*2 as a power source. Since the introduction of the original model, it has been well received for not only its quietness and no exhaust emissions, but also its convenience of using it by simply replacing the battery without refueling, and its excavation performance that is not inferior to the engine locomotive “PC01-1”.
When the model was changed, we added a rear slimming design that was requested for improvement, reduced the number of batteries from 2 to 1, and installed it in the middle of the vehicle body (center layout). This achieved stability that is better than the “PC01-1” engine car while reducing the overall length by about 500px compared to the previous model, and further improved ease of use.
This model has been certified by the GX Construction Machinery Certification System of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan※3, and Komatsu has 8 certified models. Komatsu will continue to work hard to develop products and solutions that meet customers’ various needs to reduce environmental burdens.

Main features of the product
Adopting an environmentally friendly and powerful electric motor:
Adopting battery drive, there is no exhaust gas and engine noise. In addition, by adopting an electric motor that can exert power throughout the entire speed range, it is more powerful than an engine car, especially when working in the low speed range.
Honda Mobile Power Pack is adopted for detachable portable batteries:
The battery is interchangeable and can be easily replaced and charged by anyone. When the battery power becomes low during work, by replacing the battery, you can continue working without waiting for charging time. Regarding charging, the dedicated charger is compatible with a household 100V power supply, so it can be easily charged anywhere as long as there is a power supply (the battery and charger are the same as the conventional model and PC05E-1).
Adopting a middle layout to achieve stability and compactness:
Adopting a middle layout, the battery is located in the middle of the vehicle body. Compactness equivalent to the stability of existing engine cars is achieved.
Easy-to-see monitor screen:
A simple and easy-to-see monitor screen is installed. It displays information such as operating time and battery remaining.
Easy maintenance:
Since the engine is not installed, there is no need to clean or replace the air purifier and various filters, nor to check or replenish the engine oil and fuel. It can greatly reduce the tedious daily inspection and maintenance work. The fully open seat structure makes it easy to work during inspection.
