Komatsu’s acquisition of ABS, a United States battery manufacturer, accelerated its electrification business

    Komatsu Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Komatsu”) has decided to acquire American Battery Solutions, Inc. (hereinafter referred to as “ABS”), a United States battery manufacturer, through its wholly owned subsidiary, Komatsu (United States) Co., Ltd., and completed all procedures on December 1, 2023.

    ABS is a battery manufacturer that is mainly engaged in the R&D and manufacturing of various battery packs, including lithium-ion batteries for commercial and industrial vehicles, providing optimized battery systems according to customer needs. The company has R&D and manufacturing technology for high-performance battery packs, as well as a high level of expertise and talent pool for product R&D.

    After the completion of this acquisition, the company will be able to develop and produce batteries for various models of engineering and mining machinery suitable for operation in various environments and conditions by integrating ABS’s battery technology with Komatsu’s insight and network on the development of the industry. Komatsu has positioned FY2023 as the first year of the introduction of the electrified construction machinery market, and has set a policy to further accelerate the electrification process, and the acquisition of ABS will undoubtedly be one of its important milestones.

    After the completion of the acquisition, ABS will continue to develop its current commercial vehicle battery business as an independent group company and acquire new business opportunities through Komatsu, aiming to become one of the world’s leading battery system suppliers in the commercial vehicle and construction and mining machinery markets.

    Komatsu will continue to take new steps toward the realization of future-oriented sites through the DANTOTSU Value (creating customer value through a virtuous cycle of profit improvement and addressing ESG issues) proposed in its medium-term management plan “DANTOTSU Value–Together, to ‘The Next’ for sustainable growth”, and strive to pass on a sustainable future to the next generation.
